Loving “The Girl”
Funny isn’t it how on those days when you decide not to bring a surfboard you seem to spend an age watching waves go unridden while waiting for the wind to fill in, yet on those days when you do bring a board it only ends up cooking in the car?
Murphy’s Law or just another reason to invest in a van? Hard to tell which but either way no complaints from this correspondent as it’s a beautiful day, the scenery’s sensational, and invariably the wind will come.
Indeed, despite much bellyaching from some of the crew several months back, we were blessed in SEQ this season with a series of fronts delivering consistent south-easterlies and swell.
Ironically the cause of our joy (the ubiquitous “girl child”) was the cause of much consternation across the continent as La Nina seemed to take some of the gloss off things out West.
Then again, if there is one truism of our sport it’s that the wind will blow. Maybe not today, or even tomorrow for that matter, but it will be back, of that you can be sure!
Anyway that’s enough of the esoteric for now as it’s time to turn our attention to the nuts and bolts of what’s in this issue of Oz Windsurf.
In “Features” photo-journalist Pedro Fonseca take us on a hit-and-run tour of WA’s outer reefs, we meet a family who embody the grass-roots spirit of windsurfing, and take a look back at the (epic) season that was at our local break.
There are also profile pieces on one of the most exciting young sailors in the South Pacific as well as an in-depth look at the latest entrant into the local windsurfing photography business.
You’ll also find all of our regular “lifestyle” features such ‘Windsurfing Wheels’, ‘Cook’s Kitchen’, ‘Limber Up’, and ‘What’s Hot?’ just to name a few.
All that and so much more is just a mouse click away.
